BMFACambridge Model Aircraft Club CMAC was formed in the 1940’s, has been an active club ever since and is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association BMFA. A stalwart hardcore meet at the airfield on Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting, to enjoy the art of flying model aircraft of various types.

At present the club caters for all sizes and types of radio control flying models including: Fixed wing aircraft (both I.C. and electric powered), jets, gliders (which can be either conventional thermal lift {bungee launch} or with built-in short run motors). Unfortunately the area is not bumpy enough to accommodate slope soarers. Not forgetting rotary wing models (helicopters).

The flying site consists of one end of a full size runway with grassed area to one side of the runway. A large hard standing to the other side accommodates the pits area and car parking area. There is a caravan, which is used as a tearoom and shelter (should the need arise), and to store the clubs airfield equipment.

The club is always pleased to welcome new members, both able bodied and disabled, experienced pilots and novices, to their ranks. The more experienced members are pleased to help the novices in the art of model flying.

In order to assist prospective newcomers to the art of model flying, there is a Club trainer model which they are allowed to try out with the aid of an experienced member of the club using a "Buddy box" system. This allows the experienced pilot to quickly take over should the novice get into difficulties.

The Club flying site is on the Waterbeach Airfield, which is attached to Waterbeach Barracks and is the home to the Army's 39 Engineer Regiment (Royal Engineers). The Club currently have use of the flying site on Saturdays and Sundays.

JUNIORS: under 18 years at time of joining or time of renewal. (FREE membership except for BMFA insurance.)

SENIORS: all others who pay an annual subscription plus BMFA insurance.

PLEASE NOTE: All prospective new members will have to be taken onto the flying site in the company of an existing club member until they join the club and receive the Club Identity/Membership Card.

BMV Jet

Barry's large scale Jet Due to large flying area and hard runway, it attracts many Jet boys who can be seen often with their fantastic models.

Large take off landing area and hard surface is much prefered by Jet Pilots.
